Surgery went fine and we are happy to be home once again. The palate was closed with no problems and tubes were put in her ears. She was in a lot of pain but is recovering just fine. We pray it will heal well with no fistulas. Now she can start to learn to use her new mouth & speak! Yeah! We did find out she has minor trait thalassemia. It is a common trait to 6% of Asians. It is a genetic disorder that affects the red cells. It will never give her any trouble unless she were to marry someone with this same trait. They could not have children because their child would have the major form of thalassemia and would most likely die. I think that is a pretty minor issue. She continues to thrive and fit into our family . It is amazing what a little love & security will do for a child! Thanks to everyone for their continued prayers.

Our Day in the Woods.

We are off to Chicago for her surgery on the 17th. Thanks for keeping Grace (& us) in your prayers. It will be tough for 10 days but then she will be on the road to learning to talk! That is very exciting! The photos are of a hike near our home. She is learning to be a nature girl. In our family she doesn't have much choice!

Gracie's first Easter!

Here's the latest report from the Geer household. Things are going great. The social worker came out last week and she remarked several times how well Grace was doing. That she seems more secure than others at this same length of time being home. I can only account it to lots of prayer and a supportive family. And lots of holding! The past few weeks have seen tremendous progress and we can't imagine life with out her. The whole family loves her dearly. She has gotten proficient at about 6 signs and it helps immensely with communication. Spring is coming here in Colorado & we look forward to camping trips. Surgery is coming up May 18th to repair her palate. Thanks to everyone for their continued prayers!
